  • These days she's a big star, but Mr Silberling gave Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo her breakthrough role in Moonlight Mile alongside Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon in 2002. But Pompeo was so overwhelmed by her superstar castmates she struggled for the first couple of weeks.

    "She came in and killed this audition because she never thought she would get the role, so she was so relaxed," Mr Silberling said.

    "When she turned up to work that first week and half it was very hard going, because suddenly the imposter syndrome set in.

    "She suddenly thought 'I'm here in a movie with Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon and Holly Hunter', and you could literally see somebody falling out of their body.

    "She needed those first two weeks to just believe that she belonged there.
